Maria Sainz

Co creator and baker

As a Native San Diegan I’ve always baked since I was a little girl. My mother instilled a passion for being in the kitchen, but I seemed to gravitate more toward the sweets and that was my motivation to bake. I also saw baking as an art. Growing up as an artist, I liked combining the beauty of hand crafted cookies, sweet breads, and cakes and art. I would see each delight as an art piece. Some of the items required more work to decorate like cakes, and cut out cookies and I enjoyed seeing the edible come alive.

We eat with our eyes, so when we see a beautiful delight to eat with colors, taste and texture, it must taste good as well.

I grew up with my Hispanic family and my grandmother was famous for baking cakes for hotels. My aunts picked up the trade and it was handed down to me from there. One of my favorites growing up was carrot cake. My aunt had the secret to making it and each Christmas we’d be asked to make this for parties.

Since then, I have adopted the art of baking into my life. Although, my husband and I are in full time ministry, baking is a great way to be creative and share it with others.

Enjoy what we have and share it with your friends!!
